What is Zalgo text?
Zalgo text is ordinary text with Unicode combining marks stacked onto its letters. The marks rise above, cross through, or hang below the words, making them look corrupted or creepy. It is copyable text, not an image or a font you install. The name comes from an internet horror meme; the visual style is also called glitch text or cursed text.
How to use the Zalgo generator
- Type or paste a word, name, or short phrase. The preview updates as you type.
- Choose Light, Medium, or Heavy, then adjust the Above, Through, and Below sliders if you want a particular shape.
- Press Regenerate for another pattern, then Copy Zalgo text and paste it where you want to use it.
Where people use Zalgo text
- Horror stories, creepypasta, and alternate reality game clues that need a corrupted look.
- Discord messages, social posts, and meme captions that need a brief glitch effect.
- Profile text or creative titles, when the destination accepts combining marks.
Why does pasted text sometimes look different?
Each mark adds a Unicode character, even when the result still looks like one letter. Heavy Zalgo can exceed a site's character limit or overlap nearby lines. Some apps also limit or remove combining marks. Start with Light for short names and check the pasted result in the app where you will use it.
